This seems to be one of Spiff’s rare successes. Two other examples that I can think of are the time when he literally spelled “disaster” and the time when he made a 3-point landing.

I take the “A” on the blackboard stands for Ace.

Just write all the numbers one through eleven and cross out the last three, that’s what I would have done.

He should have remained at light speed. He would have had all the time he needed.

And as his fellow classmates grow up to attend to their 9 to 5 job. Calvin publishes his next science fiction novel: The Adventures of Spiff Spaceman and signs a multi-million dollar deal with a major studio for the movie rights.

If only you were in one of those ‘new math’ you could use an alternate approach other than strict memorization.

Just count down from eleven. – ten, nine, eight. You already proved you can do that.

But, it’s a bit more difficult when the top number is 283 million and the bottom one is 37,482.

Einstein could barely add 2 + 2, but was a genius with complex mathematical relationships.

sometimes I’m concerned about just how BAD Calvin is as math, he’s 6 years old and it looks like he’s barely able to COUNT

Easy — just stick up 11 fingers, then put 3 of them down, and count the rest!

“Zok, the LASER ray dragon….” He is one of the Herculoids.

In the octal numbering system the answer is 6. In the Hexadecimal numbering system the answer is 14.

In the second grade, the teacher just happened to be on the wrong side of the light and I could see through the arithmetic flash cards; her side had the answers on them. 16 years of school and she needed the answers.
