You should have started with a request for $100 and negotiated down to $50.

At least Calvin now has an excuse for when his bed is ultimately not made.

HA HA HA ! this strip reminds me of a much older Calvin. during dinner Calvin belched very loudly and long . as he was sent to his room he said " they’ll be sorry when I’m a soloist in the orchestra".

Popular Mechanics? Calvin should have been on the cover of Mad Magazine with Alfred E. Neuman.

Cost of research grant…..$50. The look on mom’s face when she realises that she’s funding the grant…….priceless!!!

Right now all he’s made is the feature page in Parenting Weekly. You know the ‘So you think you’ve got it bad’ page.

“As I recall, your bed is in your room.”

Hang on, this is Calvin we’re talking about, she can’t just make that assumption!

And if I am elected president there will be research-grants-for-all. Paid for by a special occupational tax on lawyers, and doubled for lawyers who are elected to office.

Grants to the National Science Foundations are determined by Congress based on their “scientific merit” and we all know that Congress is chock-a-block with scientists.

She missed a chance to tell him to do a motion study, so he’d have an initial model for the robot.

I spend all my money on my family and sometimes borrow money from one of them for a small item. Getting money from one of them is like pulling teeth from a chicken.

I’m amazed that in this era where the printed medium is dying left and right that Popular Mechanics actually still exists in print. I did enjoy reading it when I was a kid, but alas, today I’m part of the problem and consume nearly all my reading in electronic form.

Calvin – instead of always coming to Mom wanting something, figure out a way to earn the money. Go mow yards, walk dogs, etc. until you earn the money you need. On the otherhand, if your robot did more than make the bed (like did chores that would help Mom) she might have empathy on your request and take it a bit more seriously.
