Would that it actually worked that way, Calvin. I sort of enjoyed school (a nerd, I know). And, while I looked forward to summer vacation, I didn’t have that much of a fixation on it as you do. That being said, when I had the chicken pox I probably took a pretty accurate census of the trucks that went up the slight hill in our little town.

I think I felt like Calvin when I was a kid.

He shoud take the resident’s example, misquote and rewrite the constitution to his heart’s content.

Calvin, you’ll go far as a lawyer!

It’s not an amendment. Search for cruel and unusual punishment that will work

Just tell him school starts a week earlier than it does. Drive by the school and with the teachers in conference point out all the cars in the parking lot. He will start school thinking he got a week’s reprieve, will say something to the other kids, and as usual, they will wonder what in the world he is talking about.

And so Calvin spends at least part of a day, if not longer doing historical research, studying the constitution on his summer vacation. He just cheated himself out of even more vacation time.

It’s probably in HIPAA. I hear you don’t even have to disclose what you had!

The United States Constitution is an amazingly short document; it can fit in a shirt pocket!

If you have not read it since grade school, then maybe it’s time to pick it up again. It’s a quick read.

The one thing ALL politicians fear is an informed electorate. If you are getting all your news from cable television, especially if you get it only from a single channel, you are not informed, you are misinformed.

Sorry Cal – when I got it in mid-June, I lost nearly two weeks of my summer vacation (way, way back in 1976)… ;-)

In Iceland, if your so sick during your summer vacation that you wouldnt’ be able to go to work if you weren’t on vacation, then the days don’t count and you get an extension. I got an extra two weeks once. It doesn’t apply to schook kids though.

Never a good rule when you need one.

So, “itch days” are not like “snow days”? Bummer.

The next amendment (most people think is): “All citizens shall have a right to do anything they want on their own property, regardless of the consequences to other properties.”

This got Calvin to read more than anything his Dad ever presented as “fact.”

I don’t mean to be a downer today, but I think what I said about childhood innocence on ‘Grand Avenue’ applies here. Where Watterson was on the subject has always been hard to pin down. But Calvin does need to learn about dealing with disappointment.
