I suggest a 4 hours long Korean movie on that arthouse cinema.

That’s the first time those two words were even in the same sentence.

I remember my mother not letting me go see the horribly bloody film that everyone was going to go see. And boy was I mad. The gore fest, “Jaws”.

Since we’ve not had a slasher movie with a Cuisinart as the central prop I’m going to venture a guess that Hollywood moguls do not read Calvin and Hobbes!

Oh, how I miss those days, when I could go off on an irrelevant tangent at a moments notice. Sigh …

Cuisinart?!? Sounds like artsy and high falutin. You wouldn’t like it.

I saw that movie. It was GREAT!

This type of thing only happened to me once. I was dropped off at a Movie Complex to see Disney’s “The Living Desert”, but instead I went to “Pork Chop Hill”, a Korean War movie, starring Gregory Peck. I got away with it, too. ☺

Actually she should have said: “There are more destructive ways to spend your afternoon!” This is Calvin, remember?

That’s probably her unique stealthy way to say “No, you’re not old enough for that movie.”

I’m troubled the way Mom is stifling Cal’s intellectual pursuits…she’ll be sorry when he doesn’t thank her in his Nobel prize aceptance speech! :D

If the movie had been Cinderella, there would still have been more “constructive” ways to spend his time, but we know that is not the issue. A more succinct answer would have been “no”.

Those movies were always readily available after midnight on cable…

Mothers and their irrelevant tangents, what can you do?

I never asked either of my parents for money to go to a movie because that’s what my (modest) allowance was for. Learned early that if I spent it all on candy then I couldn’t go to a movie. Adults I know who are mired in debt to there credit cards are invariably the ones who just asked when they wanted money.

Mom, a simple yes or no would suffice, but that would make for a boring cartoon.

Never say in 30 seconds what you can drag out to 30 minutes. I know too many people who do that. BORRRRRIIIIINNNGGGGG.

Even in 1991, did 5 year old kids go to the movies by themselves?

Yes, parents do have a tendency to do that.
