Amazing how Chagrin Falls, OH managed to survive during the 1980’s and ’90’s.

Terrible rampage, fear in the hearts of the populace, panic in the streets, and a town in ruins seems in rather poor taste the day after the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

Our 7 year old grandson (we have custody of the grandkids) treasures his stuff and tries to take care of his toys. Our 5 year old granddaughter is a little destructo who tears everything apart, and I mean EVERYTHING. She tries to put stuff back together though. I’m hoping she is just displaying mechanical ability and curiosity and we try to encourage that, maybe she will turn out to be a doctor or engineer or something…..but the back of my mind keeps picturing Harley Quinn…..

When I was about 5 years old, my Mom decided to buy me a scale model car. My choices were a black 1950 Ford, or a light green 1950 Studebaker. Even at that early age, I was a Ford guy, so I chose that one. These cars were about 1:24 scale, and pretty detailed. Later, at home, I got to thinking that the Stude seemed to be a more modern-looking car, and I wished I got that one instead.I asked my Mom, “If this car breaks, can I get the other one?”, to which she replied, “Yes, dear.”I took to smashing the Ford against some rocks in the back yard, and brought the remains into the house proudly displaying them as evidence.Sadly, I had neither car after that, but came away with the knowledge that parents are no dummies.

My husband always took good care of his toy cars. While his friends were ramping & smashing theirs, he would simply “drive” his. He’s 60 & still has most of them…along with all of the others he’s collected over the years. He also customizes some. He has made perfect copies of Crockett & Tubbs’ cars (the Daytona & the Caddie) from “Miami Vice”.

As a kid I had a fascination for toy cars. Ironically, as an adult all my cars have been “practical.” I’ve been given fancy cars as rentals and never appreciated them.

I get that the elixir makes Calvin grow, but how do all his clothes grow? It makes no sense!

Other than that plot hole, this entire strip checks out.

Calvin must like pretending to be a Republican. (Yeah, yeah… I know. If you’re tempted to respond with vitriol, go remind yourself of John 8:7, and then perhaps consider how this might be true.)

I did that to the majority of my toys, as did many kids like me. Hence why those toys that didn’t get destroyed are worth a lot of money these days.

I used to fake collisions with my plastic models, and set fire to them. Sometimes they had a small firecracker under the hood as well.
