Cathy: I've decided to call Alex back at 7:30 tonight when I know I'll get his machine. Charlene: You want to leave a message? Cathy: Oh, no. I won't leave a message. I just want to hear him speak when he's not there so I can squelch any potential emotional reaction to the sound of his voice. Once I've adjusted to his voice, I'll force myself to look at cute pictures of him until all response is numbed...then and only then will I receive a call from him and reiterate that I'm not interested!! Being a woman is like holding 12 full-time jobs...
