A Mother's New Year's Resolution January 1 Mom: I will listen without commenting, hear without critiquing... January 2-8 Mom: I will be a loving, restrained rock of support upon which my child can bounce her problems and solutions without fear of being bombarded by my opinions and suggestions... January 9 Mom: I will keep every morsel of unsolicited advice in the airtight chamber behind my zip-locked lips..... January 10 Mom: FINISH YOUR HOLIDAY THANK YOU NOTES! CHOP UP YOUR CREDIT CARDS! INCREASE YOUR VITAMIN D! STEAM YOUR VEGGIES! USE YOUR COASTERS! GARGLE WITH SALT WATER! GIVE MORE THANT YOU RECEIVE! sigh The weight reduction diet is tough. The word reduction diet, almost impossible.
Amazingly, my mom lived the January 1-9 all my adult life. It could explain why my husband & I got along a lot better with my parents (both deceased) than we have with his parents (both still living). I’m sure there were times when it was difficult for Mom to not say anything, but she did a really great job of just listening.
