Mom: This year I will be making buckwheat noodle with gingered-carrot stuffing! Cathy and Dad: No she won't. Mom: This year I will be making sun-dried cranberry with grilled leek stuffing! Cathy: No you won't, Mom. Mom: This year I will be making portobello mushroom, glazed pine nut and wilted endive stuffing! Cathy: No you won't. Mom: Blanched apricot with water chestnut stuffing? Cathy: No! Mom: Seared eggplant with roasted garlic stuffing? Cathy: No! Mom: Chorizo with rutabaga and coriander stuffing? Cathy: No! Mom: Kumquat, edamame, and sauteed kale stuffing? Cathy: No! Mom: All the other people get to make personal statements with their stuffing!! Cathy: Well, you're not "all the other people", are you?? All we want from you are big, sticky blobs of white bread, celery and seasonings just like you always make...right? Dad: Right! Mom: Everyone else gets to grow up. Mothers only get to grow sideways.
WOW!! Thanks everyone — I thought I was the only person in the world that still uses the traditional stuffing. I only do it once a year, so I do it traditional — and my husband and I still love it.
