Cathy: I declare a truce, mom! Mom: A truce? Cathy: Let's put aside our silly differences. Mom: What differences? Cathy: You know...All the picky disagreements. Mom: Disagreements? Cathy: The tension, mom! You know! The angst!! Mom: You feel tension and angst?? Cathy: AAGH!! Mom: When you're this good at pushing the buttons, it's hard to keep your fingers off them.
I’m writing this a couple days early so the moms here will all see it. Everyone thinks we firemen (and paramedics) are heroes. Sometimes we are. And sometimes we feel far from that. It’s also not why we do what we do. My biggest hero was my mom (with my dad being a very close 2nd). She cheered me on when I played basketball and soccer in junior high and high school. She applauded me best when I was in drama club.
Billy’s mom has made me her son because my mom and dad died too soon. She loves me the same as she loves Billy, and she loves Billy with all her heart. Nobody is a bigger AND better hero than a loving mom. It’s a tougher job than mine by lightyears. Mom has to be everything. My mom was. I’m pretty sure that the Mom’s here are everything to their children, including being their whole world. When I look up at a starry night, I know my mom is winking at me. Love you, Mom. And love you moms here on Earth too. :-)
