After having sent so many Christmas cards over the last 30 years, I’ve definitely grown tired of doing it. But I continue on because I recognize the importance of needing to stay in touch with our family and friends — especially now that we’re living so far away from them.
But the list has shrunk over time from what it used to be. There have been several deaths, of course, while other people have just flat-out quit sending them altogether. I’ve gotten to the point where, if I don’t hear from someone after a couple of years of sending one to them, then I’ll remove them from my list, as well. I hate to do it but don’t really feel like I’ve got much of a choice. While the cards themselves aren’t too terribly expensive — especially if you buy them somewhere like Dollar Tree where they’re $1.00 a box — the price of postage is quickly becoming an entirely different subject matter. It seems to go up just about every year and with stamps now $11.00 for a book of 20 (and I need at least two of them), it costs WAY more to mail them than the actual cards themselves are to buy so I really can’t afford to keep sending them to people year after year who simply aren’t interested enough in my husband and me to send one back to us.
