Cathy: How are you feeling about us, honey? Irving: Great. Cathy: I'm so glad. Irving: Don't you want to know how I got to "great"? Cathy: Excuse me? Irving: The path I took? The wrong turns I made? The signs that helped me learn to trust my heart to lead me back on course? The process of self-discovery that's allowed me to give myself permission to feel of about feeling good about feeling great?? DON'T YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR ME TO SHARE MY JOURNEY?? Cathy: You're hoping I'll be repulsed by your emotional neediness and will beg you to go play golf today. Irving: That's the problem with speaking their language. They understand it.
Man I have not heard anything about Rosetta Stone in ages. For a few years back in the 2000s it did get a lot of attention. I understand it is/was useful to get a very simple base of a language for conversational purposes but was panned by language experts as they said it did not explain grammar and only provided students with a limited vocabulary. I took the criticism with a grain of salt as these experts did not want to see their livelihood threatened by this program. I did not have a dog in the hunt but was always curious as to how Rosetta was different than the good old Berlitz language courses.
