I think George was in this situation in a Seinfeld episode. It turned out the girl did hear him but he was not sure because she had hearing loss according to Kramer.
I’m guessing that he is using Vivian as a crutch and would like to tell Cathy he loves her, but is too nervous to tell her directly. Orrr, like most pet parents, he is talking to his dog because well, he loves Vivian and is happy to tell her. There’s just no telling with Irving. So, if it was me, I’d pretend like I didn’t hear him, and keep going into the kitchen. If it was intended for me, he’ll say it again.
Hello Cathy friends! Happy Tuesday! Thank you for your kind wishes for Lil! ❤ Have a great day, all!
I told my dog that I loved her every single day of her life for the 17 years we had her ….. and I still continue doing that, even though it’s only to her pictures on our fireplace mantle now. Just because she’s been gone for almost four years doesn’t mean that I no longer do and that she’s been forgotten ….. because she hasn’t, and she never will be. That sweet little girl was my “heart dog” and no amount of time or distance will ever change that because a mother’s love — whether that “child” has two legs or four — lasts forever. ♥
These days, though, my husband and I love dog-sitting a couple of pups named “Sadie” and “Mocha” every now and then for two separate sets of friends of ours whenever they have to go out of town and can’t take their beloved fur-babies with them. They really get the royal treatment while they’re here because we “pawsitively” adore them and it gives us a lot of joy having dogs in our house again ….. even if it’s only temporary. ♥

Hi, rgcviper! :-)
.
Hello and Happy Tuesday, fellow “Cathy” fans. Hope you all had a really nice day today! :-)
A fine line here, on which comic Cathy must balance. Good luck to her.
HI, MOM. Hello, Clan.
Still miss our old friends, who we haven’t seen here for so long … Aaron, Billy, KoolFunkyGrrl, and others. “Cathy’s Corner” isn’t the same without you all.

The simple solution is to turn around and say “excuse me; I didn’t hear what you said.”

I can’t picture Irving ever telling Cathy that he loves her…
