You still need shelving for downloaded manuals and other materials. Companies are cutting their cost by making their instruction manuals available online. While that cuts their printing costs, it increases it for the user. Downloaded manuals usually take up at least twice the amount of paper.

Eh, I’m a librarian and I’ve been hearing that for almost 30 years. Still hasn’t happened. And I love my iPad, but I also love my books.
