Send in the scary clowns, Bill. There ought to be scary clowns. Oh, wait. Don’t bother…They’re H-E-E-E-E-E-RE!!!
Hmmm… Alphonse’s head is inclined earthward, but his eyes are rolling to the sky. Layers upon layers…
The way you’ve drawn him, Alphonse looks a bit like Obama. Is this a comment on his difficulty “juggling” the economic down-turn, the war in Afghanistan, healthcare reform, and so on? Is he downcast and wondering whatever possessed him to seek the Oval Office in the first place? Is the clown meant to represent the fawning Mainstream Media?
Save it for the Op-Ed section, Mister Hinds! We don’t need your partisan divisiveness and rancor here on the funny pages!
Jugglers refer to the objects they juggle as props, the most popular being specially made balls, beanbags, rings, clubs, or bouncing balls. Some performers also use “dangerous” objects such as knives and fire torches.

Those things the guy has in the last panel are called clubs, and I say that as a person who can juggle 3 clubs. I’ve juggled machetes that weren’t sharp but which could have really hurt if you caught it wrong or with your head. I’ve also juggled flaming torches - very carefully!

Did you notice the clown was honking his horn to try to cheer up Alphonse?

you aren’t a circus performer or a very good soccer player

If that clown keeps honking, Alphonse might be tempted to use the “club” in his hand. (What ARE those bowling-pin-looking circus props called?!)

“Did you notice the clown was honking his horn to try to cheer up Alphonse?”
Tsk, tsk, Bill. You shouldn’t draw attention to your own jokes; it smacks of insecurity.
Or were you deliberately “tooting your own horn”?

“You can’t have two balls in a game anyway.”
I’m SOOOOOOOO tempted to take the low road here, but I don’t want to be the first to do it…

resistance is futile!

There’s a lot of reaction here. I should put clowns in the strip more often. Really scary clowns.

Did you notice that when he says, “You look down,” Alphonse is actually looking down? Very deep.

BTW, I found this to answer my question:
Jugglers refer to the objects they juggle as props, the most popular being specially made balls, beanbags, rings, clubs, or bouncing balls. Some performers also use “dangerous” objects such as knives and fire torches. – http://www.natooke.com/en/juggling
