The way you’ve drawn him, Alphonse looks a bit like Obama. Is this a comment on his difficulty “juggling” the economic down-turn, the war in Afghanistan, healthcare reform, and so on? Is he downcast and wondering whatever possessed him to seek the Oval Office in the first place? Is the clown meant to represent the fawning Mainstream Media?

Jugglers refer to the objects they juggle as props, the most popular being specially made balls, beanbags, rings, clubs, or bouncing balls. Some performers also use “dangerous” objects such as knives and fire torches.

Those things the guy has in the last panel are called clubs, and I say that as a person who can juggle 3 clubs. I’ve juggled machetes that weren’t sharp but which could have really hurt if you caught it wrong or with your head. I’ve also juggled flaming torches - very carefully!
