I think that the new trend for awhile has been a switch from rice to birdseed. I think is was originally an idea from church janitors, who got tired of the sometimes tedious job of trying to clean up all of those tiny grains of rice. It save the church a lot of money in cleanup cost also.

pigeons will literally EXPLODE if they eat too much rice, even hurting any other birds or people nearby. Pray to God the terrorists never find out.
