I have a cat that knows when your taking pictures and she will pose… we thought it was just us, but other folks have commented on it.

Love cards with the family pictures….

Of our three cats one loves to have her picture taken and she will pose and get cute while the camera’s snapping. One is afraid of the camera so she runs and hides. The other just takes it in stride.

Could the second cat be bothered by the flash? I’m just trying to imagine how you could reassure her…

My three cats are very used to the camera. In fact I’ve found them in a cute pose before more than once, said “Don’t NOBODY move!” ran and got my camera and they had all stayed put!!

You might try coxing your camera shy kitty with treats; give out treat while you hold the camera and after a while kitty will associate the camera with getting some yummies. Just a thought.

Whenever my husband would set up his musical instruments for a “family photo” my (recently departed) Scottie would show up and set herself down right in the foreground … every time! He has no photo of his basses without her. Fortunately, he had a new purchase and took a new photo just before we lost her. It’s a treasure.

My cats seem to understand that when I take pictures of them, it’s a compliment (it means they’re beautiful). Sometimes if I take pictures of one kitty, the other one starts trying to get my attention.

Several months ago, I went on a “big cat encounter” at the zoo where you got to get fairly close (with heavy metal fencing between you) to tigers. At one point, I was taking this tiger’s picture, and the keeper called him to give him a treat, but he sat where he was until I finished taking the picture. I think some tigers know about having their pictures, too. So far, the tigers I’ve gotten close-ish too have been very friendly and interested in people - they’ve decided they’re the most wonderful, beautiful creatures on earth and that visitors are there to admire them (which, of course, they deserve!)
