With the death of Garland Adair this week, who was born in 1898, there are now only two males on earth still living who were born in the 1800’s. One is from Japan, and the other is Walter Breunig, who was born in 1896 and lives in Great Falls, Montana. Walt is now the third oldest man on earth.
We need to see more of him, and pronto. Forget Rufus whoever and the stupid cats. I want to see Walt.

Being born in 1899 places Walt squarely in the middle of President McKinley’s administration. Billy Murray hadn’t even had his first hit record yet (that came in 1903) and the Spanish American War was in full swing.
I concur that we need to see as much of Walt as possible in the coming weeks. Let’s celebrate him while he’s still with us.
I am amazed at how time has flown. Three of my four grandparents were born in the 1800’s, and when I was born, we had a president who had been born in the 1800’s. Only a few years back, George Burns was still alive and active. Now, suddenly, we are down to two men from the 1800’s (there are still at least nine women, some from as early as 1895).
Walt is now a national treasure. He could have voted for or against Woodrow Wilson, and was 42 years old by the time we got into WWII.
Kudos to Scanarelli for mentioning Walt’s birth year. Some people had slowly been making him younger and younger. The fact that he can walk without a walker is phenomenal.
Look up the name “Walter Breunig” on a search engine and read about him. He’s older than Walt, and still spry, but he prefers to cat around in a motorized chair.
Wow, the black backdrop areas sure make the colors pop out in this strip… love it!

A secretary named Miss Blue? That’s a steal from the “Amos ‘n’ Andy” radio show’s secretary of the same name, i.e., “Buzz me, Miss Blue!”
