I was called by my middle while growing up. I hated it. I always had to repeat it to people. So, when I got older, I started going by my last name. I was known far and wide as Bird. Just “Bird”. I’ve never been crazy about that either. So, after a life changing event about 5 years ago, I introduced myself as “Vernon” a couple of times. Bad decision. I detest it, but it stuck.
Parents to be, please consider names carefully. (Here’s one clue: Adult males tend to not like having the diminutive long E sound on the end of their names.)
As my old First Sergeant said while trying to pronounce the names calling the morning roll at Tech School; “Good god, these ain’t names, they’re DISEASES !”
