    That’s not a unicycle, it’s a hovercraft. It’s only attached to the wheel by the chain belt.

    Rina, the chain is what transfers the turning of the pedals to the turning of the wheel, but between the wheel and the seat there still needs to be a fixed support of some kind. Particularly in the first panel, it looks like the chain is keeping the pedal/seat assembly from flying away from the wheel, like a kite and a string.

    (I know I’m not the Coyoty you asked, but canis latrans is canis latrans…)
