I know it’s hard Janis, but you have to give them time to adjust as a new family. How often did you call your parents when you first married Arlo? Don’t turn into “Momma” or “Cathy’s mom!”
I know I wish my Mother had never learned about texting when I went to college. My Father complained about how many texts I used while in Madison, and I was able to show him that more than half were from my Mom. LOL
I call my 91 yr old mother once a week (she lives 250 miles away) and I casually let my adult children know. I realize how lucky I am to have a mother that old I can call and who can respond. I think they’ll figure it out about the same time I did…and hopefully pass it on to their kids. But, of course, we (their mother and I) do still call them occasionally.
It’s funny – if you look at panel 3 it’s really obvious what’s going on. Her eyes are looking at the phone, her hand is reaching for it… But we’re so used to strip chars outright telling us what’s happening or aggressively pantomiming it (since strips are printed so small) that we just don’t look for the details. I didn’t get it at first either, had to consciously look at the art in each panel.

“Would it kill them to call?”…….My kids say that their Mother goes “from zero to Jewish in 1.6 seconds”.

finale: As the author of How to Be a Jewish Mother wrote: “One does not have to be Jewish, or even female.”

Mothers and mother-in-laws are not welcomed on any tyoe of honeymoons. Not in person, by phone.or by text.

Quite the contrary. The previous strips were for the parents fo the couple, this one is for the couple themselves.
