So it must be good for you to drive on the wrong side of the street?

Is that what they call a siillygism?

Llewellenbruce, no, but they have updating problems from time to time.

Irwin’s logic may apply in these two cases (eating and driving in England), but I wouldn’t apply it universally.

ejcapulet, I think a case could be made that cucumbers are best when taken as an ingredient in tzatziki (and if you’re not familiar with tzatziki, run–do not walk–to your nearest import foods store and get a sample of this Greek cucumber/garlic/yoghurt dip/spread, best slathered on fresh, warm, village-style bread. Yum!).

The way I figure it, I’m gonna die eventually anyway, so I’d rather die fat and happy than skinny and miserable.

    That means ICE CREAM!!

    Huzzah! Huzzah!

Ah, phooey to the lot of ya, on both sides of the fourth wall. Most things that are good for you taste good to splendid. Most things that are bad for you taste more or less artificial (if not worse), once you’re used to what’s good for you. Many things are in the middle - some ice creams are better than others, for example, both in taste and nutrition.

The one personal exception to that rule involves bitter-tasting greens. Never understood what people saw in them.

Today’s strip illustrates the phenomenon of “neural swtiching”. People can come to prefer what is actually bad for them - not just in food and drink, but in music and other arts.

A diet is: “When you can eat all you want of every thing you don’t like.” (Lou Costello)

This is more like a paraphrase then a quote.

I remember a comedian once talking about the then-pending Channel Tunnel that would let people drive from England to France and vice versa. He said that, since people drive on the left side of the road in England and the right side in France, there would be one really busy lane.

    Incidentally, how is that handled?

Cucumbers can be really good in salads, and in tomato or tuna sandwiches (along with lettuce).

The only time I drove on the wrong side of the road had nothing to do with what I ate, rather what I drank.

What about Life Cereal? It’s supposed to be good for you, but Mikey likes it, and he hates everything!

You’ll like whatever your mother said is bad for you and not like whatever she said is good for you.
