Actually, I expect Broomie would be worried about Death on a more – personal – level.

Like, you know, “Hey Death, how ya doin’? How’s the family? Geez, you don’t look so good, I’m worried about you!”

After all – she said she was worried about Death – she didn’t say a thing about Dying

hmm, you’re right, that IS a creepy cactus… and just as inexplicable , what city service installed a fire hydrant on a cliff in the mountains?

“Aristotle said that since we don’t know what death IS, there’s no reason to be afraid of it. It might be…very nice.” – Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead

To die – to sleep, No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to: ‘tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish’d. – William Shakespeare, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark

“To die will be an awfully big adventure!” – Sir James M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“Dying is easy. Comedy is hard.” – Sir Donald Wolfit (attributed)

“Do you think Death is a boat?” “No. Death is the ultimate negation; Death isn’t. You can’t ‘not be’ on a boat.” “I’ve frequently not been on boats.” “No, what you’ve been is ‘not on boats.’” – Stoppard, supra.

The cactus didn’t really move. It’s just much closer than the log and the “camera” point of view moved to the left. :-P

Terry Pratchett once observed that dying is the one thing everybody has to do with no training, no practice, and no assistance from an experienced mentor, and yet (so far at least) everybody seems to do it successfully.

It was once established that the Grim Reaper has let Broomie live so long because she asks him out every time he shows up. Maybe she’s worried that GR might be willing to take the risk next time.

Nobody seems to understand the cactus!! and you’re hurting its feelings! It’s a person!

If you look at it closely, you’ll see that you’re looking at the back of its head, which is why you can see its two ears and nose, but not its eyes or mouth. And it’s almost bald - it has exactly three long, curly hairs on its scalp.

And the flowers at the ends? Well, I think I did a good job explaining everything else, I can’t be expected to be perfect, can i?

So since it’s a person, it has no difficulty in moving from one part of the drawing to another…

Maybe the cactus has been cast as Ophelia in the first all-vegetable production of Hamlet, and she’s dressed for her Mad Scene. She dies in Act IV from over-watering.

It might help to not sit on an unsecured log over a deep chasm. Especially with cacti hopping up on it with you.

Ah, but how do we know the chasm is deep? The drop might be no more than 3 feet or so. Maybe that’s not a distant mountain range below them in the first panel, it’s just brown wrapping paper, crumpled up as a cushion to pad their landing…
