She looks overly humongous in the second and third panels. I’d love to see a montage of this strip over the years to see if this is normal or if she’s exaggerating for this story line. People don’t gain this much weight over the holidays.

You can lightenup. Get the Cathy book “Reflections: a 15th anniversary” and you’ll see Cathy at war with the various clothing trends back to back.

Ah, but you don’t know Cathy’s mother! She’s one of these “smother and stuff” types: if she isn’t smothering Cathy with well-intended advice (from her perspective), she’s stuffing her with food.

The stupid sweatsuit’s too small. Give her one about three sizes bigger. I wouldn’t want one I could’nt zip up!

I agree, Susan - Anyone with a “muffin top” should keep the “vision” to themselves. My late brother-in-law Bill used to call the seriously overweight women “real visions”. So, my sons’ now call those UBV’s - Uncle Bill Visions. I’ve got more weight than is attractive, but I try to not cause eye pollution for everyone, and wear clothes that conceal, not flaunt.

Her problem is that she keeps buying bigger clothes. If she has to live in the too small stuff, she’ll be moved to fit back into it. It’s kept me a size 3 all these years.

The clothes that are out there for sale are stupid, not Cathy. She’s just pointing out how stupid all the fashions are and even skinny teenagers look horrid in most of them.
