I still can’t understand how people, after what happened in the last eight years of Republican control, would think that we should put them back into power.
If you say anything about the Bush or the last eight years all the Far Right does is shout: “Stop Blaming Everything On Bush”, and the turn around and blame everything on the Democrats and Obama.
The Republicans had their chance, and they not only blew it, they busted just about everything – it will be years before their mess can be cleaned up, and the past year shows that the Republicans have not intention in helping to clean up their mess.
<==============Yeah its all that guy’s fault! I had nothing to do with it! Leave me alone. I’m no longer in power. Blame the other guy. Vote my buddies into office next year so we can “correct” things and “help” the new president with “his” policies. It’ll be like the Clinton years all over again. Maybe we’ll privatize social security next year and blame it on the new guy!
Aaaaaa…..new decade….brace for year 2014. an old french saying goes that the year 14 of any century is a rough one
1314; Terrible famine throughout Europe that paved the way for the first outbreak of plague
1814; Napoleon was defeated (well, that’s a bad thing if you happen to be french)
1914; World War one starts.
(I don’t remember any other cases, but I am sure there are others.)
The U.N. accomplishes a number of things on a regular basis. They are not, however, considered earth shattering news. In high stakes internatiional diplomacy, their track record is a bit different.
That IS the major stumbling block to the “high stakes” diplomacy I was talking about. However, there is no way the major world powers are going to accept the equal representation of all nations for the purposes of binding policy.

He indeed is not, he just followed after eight years of one being in office. Many of these problems are indeed older in origin, starting with Reagan.

Want the U.N. to accomplish more than it does now? Get rid of the WW-II victors’ Permanent Security seats with veto rights.

And relocate the whole UN to N. Korea, now that would be something …
