These problems were easily avoided back in the 1950’s by virtue of no school nurses and in my case by giant scary penguins armed with numchuka roasaries. Ok, so our reading comp was actually at the grade level or above and we knew our multiplication tables by heart through 12X12= 144, and we could find Europe on the globe as well as NJ. But still, we were too cool for school!

    love the numchuk rosaries ….

the scariest sight that I ever faced was , after having the temerity to talk to a classmate during class, to look up and see charging, literally charging, down the aisle between the desks a nun in full regalia , with rosary beads ,crucifix and habit trailing behind her, armed with one of those heavy oak map pointer thingies , eyes fixed on ME with a terrifying expression of rage ,,,,,,,,

no ’50s monster movie even came close to producing that kind of fear

ArtyG/Nighthawks - my dad was one of my junior high school teachers, his classroom was right across the hall from the principal’s office. I couldn’t break any rules without getting into trouble….

The kids don’t each have three tests, three math classes have tests. Schools have more than one grade you know.

    nighthawks:

I had a friend that was expelled from our grade school in the 1st grade for punching a nun.

I found his logic for doing so to be flawless when I asked him why he did it. His response was “She hit me first”.

He’s still my hero to this day!

@JAD The caption says there are three math tests scheduled for the same day. (Maybe it’s mid-terms, or even finals. Or just a coincidence.) The caption doesn’t say the “dozens of students” are all taking three math courses. Perhaps it’s something like:

Geometry for freshmen - 30 students, 25 are “sick” Algebra 1 for sophomores - 25 students, 23 are “sick” Algebra 2 for juniors - 23 students - 20 are “sick”.

You say you “read that as the students are going to have tests in 3 different math classes”. Read it again - you read it wrong. Yes, students are going to have three math tests, but not the same students. Different students at the same school.

If you are in New York, a lot of courses have a Regents exam that has to be passed for the high school diploma. Two tests at one time are taken in a “conflict room”, one could take 4 tests on a given day if that what is scheduled. Obviously, not all math.

    Imajs:

Someone I knew when I lived in Orange County New York told me that many states colleges do not recognize the NY State regents diploma as anything but a regular diploma, his daughter went to Univ of Central Florida and that is what the counselors told her.

If you don’t like people shortening your screen name, then get a shorter screen name. Otherwise, learn to deal with it. It’s going to happen whether you like it or not. In fact, now that you’ve made it clear you don’t like it, it will probably happen more, from people who want to annoy you as much as you annoy them. Regarding so many students being sick, ever hear of psychosomatic illness? How about goldbricking? As I and others have told you, these are COMICS!. These are not documentaries!

Yes, so learn to live with it, Joe. The world don’t revolve around YOU, Nor is the center if the Universe in OKLAHOMA! Nor do a lot of us give a good round brown if you had neighbors or relatives, or long lost lovers (male or female) that you did things with or to or for many years ago, or currently

    Do ya unnahstand, Hoss?
