Will we ever find out whether G.T. actually penned “40” or “450” (years)?

The Usual Suspects - Spacey’s really great character.

Do like your take on it , Florchi - did not think of that.

Jeff would have used an incendiary missile from an unmanned drone; Duke would have used some of the high explosives he always has stored in the garage. Obviously it’s “Uncle Stupidhead” but I can’t figure his motive.

Corrections Officer: “Okay be quiet! You in the middle, watch your language, put that cigarette out, and take them ray bans off when I’m taking to you! Otherwise, I’ll take ‘em off and step on ‘em! You’re not one of ‘The Blues Brothers’, punk!”

My local paper, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, yesterday, had 450, while this website showed 40.

I suspect it was just a typo.

And I think that Trudeau was referring to Casablanca, not the Kevin Spacey movie.

“Captain Renault (Claude Rains): Major Strasser has been shot. Round up the usual suspects. ”

    Hey Orgelspiele:

Remember, it is Uncle Chucklebutt now. Although under the circumstances Stupidhead seems highly appropriate. I gather from yesterday’s strip he was hoping for some sort of big insurance payoff. Unfortunately, the mail silo was not insured. Makes him even more stupd for not checking first.

Whichever. The later film was named as an homage to the former.

On this site it says (at the right) “G.B. Trudeau’s Doonesbury is currently in its 39th year.” So 40 is probably the correct number, and 450 a misprint.

And it seems that Trudeau kept all the letters he ever received. No wonder he needed a silo!

I vote with those people who say that “the usual suspects” comes from the phrase “round up the usual suspects”, which became a very famous quote in the movie Casablanca. Going by Trudeau’s probable age range, I would expect him to have seen that movie, and a long time ago.

As for Toggle’s mother, she hasn’t been around long enough for us to know whether she deserves to be included as one of the usual suspects. She doesn’t seem to be in the same class as the original three. She hasn’t done enough, and what she has done seems relatively benign.

Could the “RFD” be referring to a folk group from Ann Arbor MI? Also the “Usual Suspects.”
