To parethed from yesterday: Sometimes an offhand comment can take on a life of its own. People sometimes take a comment, meant to be funny, too seriously. We did wander very far off-topic on that one!
One Thanksgiving I tried my new smoker. The turkey was going to take too long, so I piled in a little more charcoal and some more hickory chips. When I looked outside an hour later, black smoke was pouring out, the thermometer was pinned above 500, and the paint on the smoker was pealing!! The turkey was covered with soot. We grabbed it and sponged off the soot in the sink, then finished the turkey in the oven. It was the best turkey I’ve ever had. I haven’t tried to repeat the recipe, though. And the smoker…it’s now in a landfill somewhere finishing the rusting I started.
Cooking’s more fun when it’s dangerous. Think about it, wouldn’t most people rather try to bake a cake if there was an angry bear in the kitchen with you?

i fell asleep baking a pizza once and woke up to a house full of smoke once….
i guess it isn’t wise to drink a bottle of wine before you put the pizza in the oven
