The real threat is however the “terror” scenarios left in people’s minds by Cheney-Rove et al, far more than reality, not that threats aren’t real, but fear is much larger than reality.

Let’s be realist – there are on a few thousand terrorist scattered around the world, we are a nation of several million people, they are not going to conquer us even if they were to blow every plane out of the sky.

Let’s put the threat in perspective, even someone who flys a lot is far more likely to be killed by being hit by a taxi on the way to the airport then they are by a terrorist.

Let’s do what needs to be done, but let’s not panic.

One other truth – most of this hue and cry is not coming from the public, it is coming from the Far Right and the Republicans who don’t really care about the threat, they just want to make Obama and the Democrats look bad, they will attack anything and everything.

Annual gun related deaths in U.S. average 32,000. Motor vehicle deaths average 43,000- shake in your boots, scan everyone with a gun or ignition key in their pocket? It is indeed a matter of perspective. I also find that a properly applied “long rifle” when dealing with “bad guys” who are NOT heads or representatives of governments, but “criminals”, or “combatants”, is a lot cheaper, more efficient, and accurate, than bigger bombs.

What does year “0” or “1” have to do with it anyway? Cor Frog wants us to skip 1990 and start the nineties in 1991 in another post. When does the decade start? 1/1/2010, and it will end on12/3x/2019. Get a grip.

The natural numbers are nice, but for good reason humanity complemented that system long ago with the integers. Letting the new decade start with 2010-01-01 makes a lot of sense, if one is to perform any calculations….

The first “decade” had nine years, and they have been ten years long since. That is commonly accepted. Thus, the “seventies”, “eighties”, “nineties”, and “aughts”!

Canuck, you can simply start counting the decade from the “zero” year by thinking of 1-1 on said year as a fraction of the year leading up to the completion of …. one. Thus, the first day of the decade remains resolutely 1-1-2010, or zero and 1/365th of the decade.
