Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for January 16, 2010
Transcript:
Cathy: The stretchy workout leggings are so comfy! I just need a nice, big top to cover the rear. Saleswoman: We don't cover rears anymore. We celebrate them. To cover the rear implies you think there's something wrong with the rear... which tells the world you haven't been working on molding and firming your self-esteem! Cathy: Untoned insecurities: The new cellulite.

Go to the big and tall area in the sporting section of the men’s department, I’m pretty sure they’ve heard it before.

That’s what free t-shirts are for. At colleges they give you free shirts all the time, and no one ever has a small, so I have tons of oversized t-shirts.

Are we talking about molding and firming our self esteems or our behinds?

Macushlalondra: In Cathy’s case, I don’t think there’s any difference.

I got lots of both kinds!

There is nothing wrong with covering the rear! But really, Cathy needs some self-esteem.

This is so played out, I wouldn’t even mind being annoyed by the sponging Inlaws right now, and I have NO TOLERANCE AT ALL for them.
The problem with society (ok, 1 of them) is that almost everyone is digustingly obese, and they walk around half naked, with all that fat hanging out, grossing everyone else out, so much that they don’t want to eat. COVER IT PLEEEEEEEEEASE! Wear old stuff until this silliness passes.

I agree, mrslukeskywalker. Wear something that fits you just right, and work on being in shape and healthy. If you are overweight due to something beyond your control, then, again, wear something that fits you. We don’t need to see everyone’s body hanging out everywhere. Oh, and we have enough “self-esteem” in this country, if that’s what you want to call it. I think it’s more self-centeredness (if that’s a word).

AndiJ, not self esteem, self respect.
Self esteem is like looking in a mirror. All you see is yourself.
Self respect is like looking in a window. You can still see yourself, but you can also see beyond yourself and how you fit in with the rest of the world.
Too many people get hung up on self esteem and either become self-loathing, or egomaniacs.
Self respect shows you for who you really are, but doesn’t let you get carried away by thinking that YOU is all there is.
And yes, Cathy needs some. :)

For me I am over weight but am cautious on what I intake, which means no fats. Being carefull for futre problems. Comfy clothes does not mean blue denims. They don’t make denims for my body type.

kab2rb, it’s not only what you eat, you know. It’s how you eat it. Fast eaters over eat. It takes time for the stomach to tell the brain it’s full. People who eat more slowly are generally in a healthier weight range because they stop when they’re full. People who eat fast keep eating even after they’re full because their brain doesn’t KNOW they’re full yet.
Kudos to you on the no fat thing. I could never do it. Southern, you know. Can’t live without fried chicken. But I eat small portions all day long (at least 5 meals a day), and I eat slowly so I don’t over stuff myself.
And I’ve seen denims for every body type. If my 400 pound uncle can wear jeans, then there’s a pair out there for you somewhere.

Go donate blood, Cathy. You can get lots of nice big Tshirts that way absolutely free.

I enjoy the Cathy comic, but I don’t get why so many people read it and complain. If the complainers bother to read it, there must be at least 1 or 2 storylines that they like, right?
Yeah, Cathy always has trouble with clothes and exersize. But t hat make me feel a little better about myself.

I’m with you Kris173 – who do folks read it if they find it so repulsive? As for the clothes, try and find something that “covers you” – that’s the point of the story. I’m quite small and some of the XL’s don’t fit the way I think they should. I often buy my T’s in the men’s dept.
