Yeah, I hear that. When you’ve been laid off and you’re a month behind on rent and every bill, laying green across every outstretched hand is a sick joke.
The guy did make a donation, of his time and skill… now Skeezix just needs to take the cash value of that haircut and hand it over to the museum. Everybody wins!
I agree with Axe. Skeezix needs to take the 10 or 15 or 25 or whatever dollars he was going to pay the barber and put it in his collection fund. He can even give Mr Barber a receipt for tax decuction purposes.
He doesn’t have to be self employed. He may just see that his paycheck is only 66% of what he actually earned. On the check is the amount of his gross earnings and the actual amount of the check is his net earnings which is only 66% of the gross. I totally agree with him, if the government rips that money out of your check before you see it so you are forced to get by on less, let them donate to the charities of your choice. As for them using the money for purposes he doesn’t approve of I hear him loud and clear.
I’m proud to pay my taxes. I’d be just as proud to pay half as much. I’m glad that there are noble men who decide where my money should go, be it protecting two tailed raccoons or bigger bombs. My mother told me, “Those men wouldn’t be in Washington if they didn’t know what they were doing”> After all, if people really wanted term limits they would not keep electing incumbents. I am so happy that I get their franked (Postage paid by Congress) glossy letters telling me what a good job they are doing.
We her since my spouse has retired have received a lot of calls from chairties org asking for money some we never heard of. Me I’m good at saying no or to the point don’t answer the phone if you have caller ID. They don’t talk to answer machines.
I tell people I only donate to local causes. There are plenty of them and you know where it’s going. For major causes, Salvation Army has the least overhead that I know of.
Macush, I self-employed and 33 percent of my income goes to the federal government. I don’t even want to know what it comes out to including state and local taxes.
I usually dismiss such calls by citing to them the dubious nature of their antecedents and suggesting that they perform a self-colonoscopy with their phone…

ScurvyDog1 that was so funny I laughed for five minutes. Thanks, I needed that.

Hector, I had to read your post a couple of times to get it. You must be self-employed. It’s hard to see that money go.

Axe & David are right, a win-win-win solution. As for the tax tangent, is a comic strip the forum that is most appropriate for this rant?

jollyjack, people get off topic here all the time. Just skip over what you don’t want to read.
