Lalas, just for the record : the phrase «promote the general Welfare» is found not in Article I, section 8 of the US Constitution, which rather deals with the powers of the Congress (among which is «To declare war» - anybody remember when that power was last exercised by the Congress ?), but in the preamble to that document, which lays out the fundamental goals, to serve which it was adopted. «Churchillwasright» would have you believe that it’s all a misunderstanding….

Providing for the general welfare is unconstitutional? Hmmm… the words are right there in Article 1, Section 8.
I guess anything lefties don’t like… say warrantless wire-tapping is totally constitutional. But anything righties don’t like isn’t.
