Adam@Home by Rob Harrell for July 20, 2009
Transcript:
Adam: Okay. Time for vacation departure! Laura: I must say, even though it's a long ride, I'm excited. Adam: Me, too. I haven't been in a national park in ages. Laura: Wow. You did a great job packing the car! Adam: I know. There's not an inch to spare. Clayton: Hey! There's no room for us! Adam: Listen, kids. I hope you understand, but your mom and I had to make a choice.

Gotta have your priorities squared away.

But kids, THEN it wouldn’t BE a “vacation”, would it?

When did Brian stop drawing Adam? Just wondering - I’m glad that the rest of the family is back in the cartoon strip.
Of course its going to take forever to get to the national park… not so much with traffic but all the stops at all the coffee shops along the way.

As mentioned by many other posters (me as well) Doug D, Brian has to focus more on drawing his other strip “Red and Rover” which is set in a more gentler era (the 1960’s, our era) before things like the internet, i-pods, twitter, and the “wii” came and made this generation into mindless pudding (just kidding). He had Jess Harrell (formal creator of the strip “Big Top”) take over. And many of us (I as well) is glad he did. Gone are those terrible themes Bassett use to do in his strip. Now there’s better storylines that show Adam having more time with his family and less time with his computer. Also, check out another strip somewhat like it on this site called “Daddy’s Home”. It too is about a family guy who runs an internet business out of his home.

Just my opinion, but I think the art and the stories have gone down-hill since Bassett left. Now the strip’s focus is too much on the family and not enough on work life. Bassett had a little more balance to it, but could have put in more home stories to balance it out a little more.
Since Jess Harrell took over for Brian, I don’t think I’ve seen Adam at his computer once or even out at the coffee shop. I miss those stories. Then there’s the art work. I noticed the changes to the characters features almost immediately, but thought they were re-running older stips until I heard about Bassett moving on (from someone at this site).

I’m with Josh 1360, the strip is more fun now. Not to knock Brian B. in any way….Red And Rover is wonderful!

I have to agree with bc13 - the artwork changed and it feels wrong (Baby Nick has shrunk down to a peanut and has NO personality) and the whole strip I thought was about Coffee and working at home in the tech age. There are plenty of strips about “family” (yawn)….

Weighing in on the topic, I much prefer the “new” Adam.

I liked the old Adam fine. But it was never really funny and the art looked rushed and repetitive.
If I had to choose I would go with the new one by a mile or so.

why didn’t i ever think of leaving the kids at home to go on vacation?

I think the strip has improved immensely with the change of artists. I was just about ready to drop Adam from my queue of daily reads - it had become boring and repetitive, almost Cathy-like. The infusion of new ideas has made it much better.

Well, I hope you all enjoy it, but I think I’m going to have to break out the old Adam treasures, because this stuff just isn’t cutting it for me, and yesterday’s strip just had me shakin’ my head. It’s gone from personal favorite status to bottom of the barrel.

Sorry, but you kids are taken the bus. Here’s your tickets. We’ll meet you there.

Interesting how two people can look at something and see two different things, have two completely different opinions. That’s what makes the world go around, I guess.

I liked the old Adam, but the new Adam is fresher, and it’s nice to have a change, even though the new artwork took some getting used to. Would be nice to get some of the business stuff and the coffee stuff back, though.

I too prefer the old Adam, but I like the new ones still.
