Woman: Taking you pill, eh, Carmen? Tia Carmen: That's what I'm doing. Woman: What? You take it once a day? Twice a day? Tia Carmen: As often as I can afford it.
OK, hold up. Baldo has always been a tongue-in-cheek, family-driven strip that makes us laugh at the little moments in life. How did we go from zero to political in three panels?
No, it’s a political strip. Baldo has been political in the past, mostly on the Illegal Immigration issue.
The whole “elderly who can’t afford medicine” position is a standard pejorative position with little, if any applicability to what is actually going on. Yawn.
So..elderly people that can’t afford to take the medicene like they should due to cost doesn’t matter?
Todays strip is both economic and political and true no matter which one you think it is or isn’t.
As to the proverbial elderly who can’t play for their medicine, its a common election year theme to generate sympathy votes for the left. There are plans both governmental and private to address that issue.
I enjoyed Sicko, which turned out to really be about how to swiftly do what works in other countrys and get our nation healthy again.
I especially liked that it is a lovely video for the whole family, including the little ones. He even makes sure that the littlest ones in the family will quiet down and watch, so that we can concentrate on the adult issues analysed. Easy on the brain, straight forward, no spin, and thought provoking.
It is nice that the answers are already known around the world.
The rest of the time she makes do with naturopathic medicine. But maybe the pill is d-alpha style vitamin E, and she was careless and bought previously frozen meat or bread, so needs the extra d-adpha-tocopheral (vitamin E).
Baldo does have its serious moments, particularly strips in which the father recalls his late wife. Prescription costs are not just a politico-economic axe to grind; they are a fact of life for some people, and I speak as someone who once had a monthly prescription cost that nearly matched my rent.
Hey, I’m not old- but I only take my meds when I can afford them. And that’s with a relative paying for my insurance. We still pay more each month on what I need to function than either we pay the company or it pays out! And my doctors bleeep say I cannot work, so for now…

It’s not a political statement, it’s an economic one.

Sicko? Yeah, that’s not a slanted presentation.

ALL true, but remember that not all senior citizens are poor. As a group, they have the highest net worth per household.
