Growing up, we only had to use four digits if it was the same exchange. And punch? What is this punch of which you speak? We had to dial.

Oh, sure, had four on our party line. Four separate rings. Ours was one long and one short. Others were two long rings, three short rings, and two short and a long. Pick up the receiver to dial, someone from one of the other lines is talking.

I remember this one lady who kept saying “ringy-dingy” after every numeral when making a connection.

Punch seven digits? Wow, how terribly young Hamhock must be if he has no clue of either DIALING digits in a rotary dial or picking up a phone and telling the operator who your trying to call. And clearly he doesn’t get actually walking over to their house and chatting with them.

You want to know what was barbaric ? Dial Up Internet so when you signed up for Netflix they had to mail you The DVD and there was no Hulu, Amazon Prime or You Tube. Now that was barbaric
