Tia Carmen: What's that? Dad: Oatmeal. Dad: Dr. Gracia says I need to eat healthier. Dad: Ack! This stuff's hard to eat. Tia Carmen: How long did you cook it? Dad: Cook it?
Raw oatmeal with raisins and some milk tastes way better than porridge, so this isn’t all that stupid. The stuff’s really filling, so you have to take care not eating too much of it.
True ejcapulet; I’m guessing Sergio was taken care of by his mum (or perhaps grandmum?) then by Rosa (wife) then by Carmen–so never learned to even boil a cup of tea.
Good question is if Sergio would have made the same mistake if the recommendation had been brown rice–of which the last panel suggests affirmative.
bald, I think you’ve restricted your “thinking box” to American-only.
Another option for Sergio is to cook the oatmeal in tomato juice along with some onions and mixture of green and serrano peppers (“borowed and modified” idea from a church-family member who tops cooked oats with curries).

A bad joke at Sergio’s expense.

Some people never learn to take care of themselves.

It’s all a matter of taste, but *my* taste buds definitely don’t agree with yours.

I agree with hildigunnur. I won’t eat oatmeal that’s cooked. I do like it in “crunchy clusters”.

Mine is much better to make the perfect oatmeal for breakfast. :-) And of course, the oatmeal is good for people’s health conditions.

The best use of oatmeal is in oatmeal raisin cookies! Add in some chocolate chips and you have a worthy indulgence.

Uncooked oats with milk is not such a bad thing. On a cold day I will cook it, but I am not partial to warm oatmeal on a hot summer morning.

I agree with jestrfyl. Can’t stand the texture of any cooked cereal.
