This story is reminding me of a cubano friend. He was booted out by Fidel as “escoria,” but his family remained in Cuba. It was very sad, he kept falling for schemes that promised him they could get transport for his family from Cuba to the US. In the 10 years I kept in touch with him, not one ever worked out.
