Anyway…. got back late tonight and started replying to you and to Beviek on yesterday’s forum…but I might have posted it a moment after the day changed…Just a heads up.
Meanwhile… Linda…. I got lotsa Milky Way for ya.I much prefer Kit Kats to those.
And you can have a few Peanut Butter cups…but sssshhhh….
And Bev…. glad you liked the Imwalle’s tour. But did the guy use the words “1886” or “old-time” enough, do you think?
Customers don’t really get to go into those greenhouses very often… I was told I could look in one once when they were out of 6-packs of some tomato or other in the retail building. But the cold frames, now overgrown and mostly empty, used to hold treasure….basil you could pick yourself, for $2 a pound, even well into the 1990’s (a pound of basil is waaay more volume than you’d think!)tomato starts they forgot to dig up, so you might be able to dig up one already 2 feet tall, for the price of the tiny ones……oregano, flowers…it was really fun.
Meanwhile…. tomatoes from that very place are in a big wire mesh basket in the salon kitchen… last of their own summer crop.
Red…. too many candles for a menorah… but I’m glad to hear it wasn’t one giant flame.I was waiting up to see whether I needed to call the fire department.
I was worried, cos I think Roger’s house is outside the city limits…. he might have to rely on the Ballard County Accordion society, Chess Club and Volunteer Fire Patrol….and they’re away tonight for a gig at the Nolan County Accordion and Chess Festival.
All this talk about candy bars makes me feel like my teeth are going to protest and start dropping right out of my mouth, just listening to it all! Enough!! Do you hear me???
ENOUGH!!
Candy bar season is OVER!
OK, well…..maybe a few more tonight, because, after all, it IS our Ballard Halloween Bash…………..but then, THAT’S IT!
Ah think Rog is watin’ fer a sign… Frum sum inteligense outside our erthly plain…. Hope nobuddy frum BS Regional Airport miss take his roof fur a Landon strip… Jus sayin…
“Do we fight against our own nature when we accept conformity? Roger would say yes!”+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++…for Roger always longed to be………………….
Picking myself up off the couch in the Tiki, stumbling through the door and down the street to my house to take a shower and get into the wrapped up sheets and electrified wig so that I can make it back to the Tiki a bit later….I knew I shouldnt have tried to teach that canine bartender how to make Sangria….just when he got it down, he got me down too…oh my head…who has the Alka Seltzer kiosk here?…
ah … yes, thats the ticket…snickerdoodles….and ribs…yak ribs….beans….cornbread….sweet tea or sangria….so glad Benton knows what he’s doing now…(sweet Jesus help me, I cant do this again tonight…can I?)…..maybe I should put a couple of cases of pineapple juice in the basement in case the Sangria is a bit sour….
Actually I’m just practicing…I gotta take a shower and come back.
Stel, it starts when you’re ready….and it ends (for you) when you go home, pass out, fall asleep, or otherwise leave….
I’m having a late day…. and dunno how late I can stay up…. but I’m usually here till the cows come home. We’ll see.
I’m bringing a load of bananas, some of my sour cream potato salad….it’s for those, like me, that like it fairly plain…(no pickles, dill, pimientos, etc…just good potatoes, good mayo, sour cream, celery and eggs.)but in honor of Halloween, I made it with purple potatoes!
Bev — sure, come on over! But I hope you’ll consider a long silky wig with glitter instead of the extensions… the party would be almost over when we finished THOSE.
I have some lovely artificial hair ones…. quite inexpensive cos they don’t look “real”…. but that shiny effect is perfect for Morticia.
It’s more black than you’d want to dye your own hair, and the glitter can just stay in it till you want to wear it again… no shampooing for 3 days to get it out.
I may still be putting the finishing touches on the devilled eggs, and I do have to get into costume.
I’ve been busy too…I was going to do a different costume but I put SO much work into that banana, and some people didn’t see it….so unless I’m suddenly inspired and I have more time than I think I will, I think I’ll be a banana again tonight. But it’s already 7:30 for our East Coast end….so I doubt I’ll have much time.
Has the party started? I was invited. (well kind of ordered, LOL!) by a very dear lady who I consider my friend, and I know she is much closer to you folks, to be here. Don’t mean to intrude though.
Dying for a mug of homebrew, and a plate of that yak…mmmmm….and some footloaf…and a devilled egg…and oh wow…. there’s so much food!At the last minute I decided to add something to my banana costume…. since some people liked the hat I’d been wearing earlier in the day…
I made a bigger one for the banana….now I’m a … um…. a ???Bananawitch?
I’ve heard of a sand witch…. but…oh well…it’s Ballard Street!
bev dig into my little Halloween bucket! There are a bunch of Musketeer Bars, dark chocolate with mint in the bottom. Also some dark chocolate Andes Mints as well. Help yourself!
Meanwhile…. glad you guys like the costume.I doubt the Monkey would be jealous … he likes bananas but I’ve never heard him say he wants to BE one.Especially not if there were a hungry monkey around!
BTW meant to say the Vet is another one who said he wouldn’t be here….I remember it cos I told him I’d been expecting him to wear that spandex again.
Ooooh Dry, I’ve been looking all over for those mint 3 Musketeers, ever since Briatollah told me about them.
Bev I realised I didn’t answer you twice…. sorry…so many crossing conversations.
Tonight’s devilled eyeballs have skinny strips of pimiento for the bloodshot effect. That’s what I usually do. When I made the ones in the photo, as I recall, I realised at the last minute I didn’t have any (I usually just swipe the filling from a couple of green olives and sliver it, but I was out.)So I “drew” red lines with a toothpick and ketchup! At first it actually looked better than pimiento… but it kinda ran and looked funky.
Oh well, I suppose bloodshot eyes aren’t supposed to look good!
I bought about the same amount around Oct 14th or so…..(23 pounds seems to be how many fills a 20-pound box when you choose small ones.)I do try to get some that are still pinky-orange so they’ll last…but all of a sudden they all do ripen anyway…some, luckily, a LITTLE less so.
I took a FEW to my friends when I went out of town that week…but actually, I would have eaten MORE of them had I just stayed home with them…
I gave a FEW to a friend here…and cooked a FEW here and there (no giant pots of sauce or anything, which take stoo many.)And maybe 5 or 6 had a bit of blossom end rot that had gotten further inside than I’d expected. The rest I ate fresh…. mostly out of hand, and unadorned.I had 5 left (smaller than billiard balls) when I bought the new batch.I’m a tomatoholic!
I like spicy food….. NOT as spicy as Derrick and dry….but my stomach rebels more than it once did….. sigh…no ghost peppers or habaneros for me, please.
I sometimes buy empty green pitted olives…. hard to find but usually cheap…then I drain them, saving the liquid,
Then I put a tiny sliver of anchovy or dab of anchovy paste in each one, put them back in the jar and cover them with liquid.Wait a week and the flavors blend…heavenly!
I learned to love anchovy olives as a kid in Libya…they may sound horrible to some…. but I swear…they’re NOT fishy, they’re incredibly mellow and tasty.
But they’re expensive if you ever manage to find any…I do occasionally buy them…but I also “fake” my own.
On a “serious” LOL, note, I am a tomatoholic also. If you want some GREAT tomatoes to carry you through the winter, and your store sells them, try KUMATO tomatoes, they are about the size of a tennis ball, they are burgandy in color with a tinge of green, not red like the usual tomato, but they are ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS AND KEEP WELL. Also in the cherry variety, try SUNSET ONE SWEET TOMATO. BEST EVER TOMATOES. BOTH KINDS, FOR WINTER I have EVER had. You can google them and decide for yourself. They are a bit pricey, not outrageous, and worth every penny.
And with that, the LADY who offered me the invite has disappeared! (((((((((I HOPE YOU GOT BUSY WITH A GOOD REASON AND ARE OKAY LADY!!!))))))))))))))Have a great night, partygoers! Time for me to change the clocks and head out. And I leave you with a CARTON OF THIS IN CHOCOLATE MINT! ENJOY!
Wow…. do I feel silly….Ballard St. is closed off on Sunday….so I’m staying right here on THIS block.
Oh yes, Bev… after a party like this, I’m not gonna start worrying about street closings, the limited Sunday bus schedule, carrying big bags of stuff, etc.
I have my loft…. and I’m too tired to even go upstairs, my lovely yurt.
I brought tomatoes and apples; I’m taking home a plate of this wonderful yak, and all this other stuff…
And in the morni … afternoon… I’ll make banana bread.
Stop by for coffee! And anybody else who wants to, as well.
I usually love homebrew… especially as home brewers rarely make lily-livered pisswater….
Um…. no offense to Bev’s …ick…. Bud Light..
I did have a friend long ago who made a lot of homebrew that tasted like hoppy, malty champagne…a bit reminiscent of that weird commercial stuff they used to call ChampAle…
But at least it WAS malty and pretty drinkable.
Another friend I haven’t seen in a few years made wonderful mead.
Wow…. if I ever see my friend I’ll ask his secret.
He LOVES to talk about it to the point that I stopped asking! LOL
Thing is we don’t run in the same circles any more — knew each other from working Renaissance Faire, which closed, and having some mutual friends whom I no longer see either.

and if you are within the voting area of Michelle Backman (bachman, backmann, bahkmann, etc many mispelled last names) please tell her she is not wanted nor loved by Minnesotans and to get the heck out of Dodge….hey ,we dont even know how to spell her name, much less vote for her….
