I’ve had a sliver of glass in my hand since 1981. When I tried to get it out it would go in deeper. I’d go after it every few days to no avail. Eventually I gave up and scar tissue fomed around it.
There’s an old remedy for something stuck under the skin that works, even though today people give me “that look.” Crack an egg (you won’t need the actual egg, eat it or whatever). Look at the edge of the shell and you will see a white, papery membrane that covers the inside of the shell. Carefully strip off a piece big enough to cover the area where your splinter or whatever is, lay it over the place, and put a bandaid over it. In 24 hrs, the membrane will dry, contracting and drawing the sliver to the surface.I’ve used this for wood slivers, fragments of sheet steel, glass etc. Works every time.
back in 84 I got a piece of pencil lead in my arm. could never get it out. The spot turned bright blue but now its faded. Like the curved scar that ran down the back of my leg from barbed wire.
Back in Fifth Grade, I caught a freshly sharpened pencil that rolled off my desk — and the spot from the pencil lead is still visible in my palm. That was back in 1953!
When i was in the 9th grade at Jefferson Davis Junior. High School in Jacksonville , Florida, my 7th grade girlfriend accidentally jammed a pencil point in my finger on the palm side. Now at age 62, I still can faintly see the small gray graphite piece buried there. Every time I see it, it brings back memories of my childhood and my first real “love”.

Watch, Opal will try to take the sliver out while he’s sleeping tonight. He’ll be able to feed himself tomorrow.
