I don’t get the snail part.

The French eat escargot, which is just snails.

He brought her pain au chocolat, hoping for un peti’ bisous…but curses…. he was foiled again!

But where are the frogs?

I just finished reading the Horatio Hornblower series, and practically every time they mention the French the word frog was evolved.
