Many people have surnames based on regions their ancestors came from or the given names of their ancestors.

One of my ancestral surnames means “stealer of pigs”.The coat of arms is a man hanging from the gallows with dead pigs at his feet.

If my forefathers were English, I’d be “Carpenter.” Not bad.

On my Mom’s side, it would be “New House” (built by one of the “Carpenters” on my Dad’s side?).
