I’ve been to a few zoos. Unless it’s a more recent trend, I don’t see many animals in actual cages- not the larger animals. Zoos try to create miniature replications of the animals’ natural habitat. In my own experience, great lions and apes and whatnot pacing around in concrete cages with iron bars exist mostly in cartoons.
Shocking admission: I’ve never been to a circus. In my whole life! Zoos yes. Amusement parks, plenty. The 64/65 World’s Fair, and just recently Walt Disney World. But a circus- never.
Not far from my home we have the “African Lion Safari”. The animals, including lions and giraffes, get to roam free, and humans have to stay in their cars.

what is the point of zoos? they want to captive all wild animals, at the same time making sure those wild animals exist in undisturbed nature.

I don’t suppose there’s always the auqarium, but I’m betting Maria’s reputation precedes her.
