Bug Blog by Cuco Rocha Same Old Song Florida gun freak who killed black teen over his loud music was "standing his ground" because... he feared violence from the slammin' beats and thumpin' bass.
Could it be he also feared what looked like a shotgun pointed at him? (I haven’t heard any details in a while. Does anyone know if there actually was a gun in the van?)
There doesn’t seem to be any evidence of a shotgun, and other circumstances make the shooter’s story suspicious. However, the fact that the targeted van drove away before returning may provide enough reasonable doubt for a jury to acquit. But the more I learn about what goes on in jury rooms, the more I tend to question the whole jury-of-your-peers 12-good-men-and-true system. I’m told the saying is, “If you’re innocent, ask for a bench trial; if you’re guilty, ask for a jury trial.” But from what I’ve seen so far, I’d probably vote to convict.
