Waiting at the bottom of hills on snowy days was more lucrative and more fun than shoveling walks. Most times if you knocked on the door the wife would answer and she usually thought her husband needed the exercise so she’d turn down the chance to have the walk shoveled for 25 cents. Those same husbands would gratefully drop fivers and teners into our mittened hands to help their cars get up the hills with a few guys pushing from behind.
It’s a darned shame none of you PC-ers were around in the 60s when this was originally drawn – yeah, I am showing my age, because beads were “real in” and being traded – and no one drew any conclusion that slavery was was the topic when beads were mentioned. Its a cartoon. Too bad some people can’t keep it in perspective and enjoy it without the politics. God rest Charles Schultz.

The girl is Patty.

Original Patty can be as rude as Violet. I’m not surprised she slammed the door. But surprised at Charlie Brown. Good one CB!

I found Charlie Brown’s reply in the 2nd panel to be LOL funny. It’s not usual that he’s the one to have a snappy comeback to someone.
