The fifth thing at Christmas that’s such a pain to me is five months of bills. (Find on YouTube “The 12 Pains of Christmas” which is a parody of “The 12 Days of Christmas.”)
Pluggers I know are the sort who still make home-made gifts – usually not so many bills that way. Home-made gifts – home-made gift wrapping, home-made decorations on the tree. Win-win situation for most pluggers. Years ago, at Christmas, my neighbor gave me a cookie jar with home-made sugar-free cookies in it. At the same time, we had also purchased a cookie jar for her – and filled it with home made sugar free cookies. The next year, I filled the cookie jar which she had given to me with sugar-free cookies and gave it back to her – and she filled the cookie jar which we had given to her with sugar free cookies, and gave our cookie jar back to us. We have been filling those same two cookie jars with sugar free cookies every year for the past thirty three years and trading those same two – filled – cookie jars back and forth every Christmas. It has been a win-win situation for us for years!
Hey !! I’ve got it nailed ! I’ve got 3 cats, and throughout the year I leave a kitten (anonymously, of course) at a loved one’s home . Come December, all my gift giving is done !! And quite inexpensively !!
Not a problem with this Plugger. I put aside a certain amount in a special account each month and when the bill(s) comes in, I pay it (them). In fact I got my MC bill, covering everything, on Monday. The full payment is in the mail today. No angst!
what bills? i was paid for christmas with my hard earned savings, not my “Why am i still paying for this” debt. Debt = Dumb Dave Ramsey for the win! budget people. $20 a week all year go towards to all the gift giving needs through out the year so we dont have to payoff chirstmas and birthdays.
My other half runs a Christmas club in which some people have been known to save several thousand pounds for December. Last year there was about £28,000 in total saved. It takes some looking after (with me as treasurer) but this year the banks aren’t providing the same passbook accounts, so we’ve cut back on the numbers.

What ‘Christmas Club’ accounts? As far as I know, they haven’t been offered in 10 to 20 years!!

What happened to Pluggers fiscal responsibility?
I remember just a few panels ago how different things were.

What Christmas bills?!? I paid cash for it all. I’ve never believed in going into debt for Christmas.

The gift clubs and hamper clubs in the UK have a bad reputation for going bust sometime in November.
