She definitely needs a sympathetic face.

Hey John! Bread, slice of meat, slice of cheese, mustard, then bread again. Put the whole thing in a little [plastic bag. Lunch by the numbers.

A grown man should know how to make a sandwich and grab an apple. Besides, I’m sure there are restaurants around. You’re just whining.

I think he knows how to make a lunch — he just doesn’t like doing it. Get used to getting up a few minutes earlier, John. It’s not that big a deal.

Jean keeps John real. I wish she’d work a little harder at it….that, or that it would sink in more on John’s end.

Since Ellie does not have to leave till 8:30, she has no excuse not to pack John’s lunch..If not, shouldn’t this be part of Jean’s job description, to have to pack and bring in her boss’s lunch?

8:30 are you kidding me, I’ve been at work for an hour and a half, my wife for two and a half hours. She hasn’t made my lunch in the last 35 years.

A man who pulls teeth and does root canals for a living complaining because his little wifey was too busy to make his lunch? What a big baby. Grow a pair John and make your own lunch! Or eat out, dentists can afford it.

An thoughtful spouse will warn the other spouse in advance of pending changes to established routines; it’s worked for 42 years.

I am so glad my husband is nothing like John. Don’t know how or why Elly puts up with him….Jean is the one to put him in his place – the pretend helpless male and a male chauvinist. He knows how to make sandwiches and doesn’t need Elly to make them for him – he just liked the idea of having a wife doing things for him and doesn’t like the changes. You can’t have it both ways – Elly bringing money home AND continue doing things for you as before. You gotta pick one and I bet you like the money better.

Thanks for your commentary, Lynn. I have long been reporting that most modern comic strips are done for adults, not children. No one commented on who made the children’s lunches. Being a man myself I recognize that most men are experts in the whining, I need sympathy, department. Keep it up Lynn, you’re right on.

I don’t think is really about man vs woman, more so about what happens when you take people for granted. It is good to shake things up occasionally, makes people think about how the other people in their lives, be that a husband, wife, friend etc., do things that make their lives easier. We often don’t realize how much other people do for us until, for some reason, they aren’t doing it anymore.

He isn’t getting sympathy from her. Making his own lunch isn’t a ‘hardship’ in her eyes.

John having to make his own lunch for a change isn’t exactly a “hardship” in MY eyes either!!!!! How hard can it be? Two pieces of bread with a slice of meat and cheese slapped in-between — and maybe even some mayo, mustard or ketchup if he likes that kind of thing on his sandwiches. It’s not exactly rocket science!

She might not have much sympathy, but since she works for him, she might just end up running for lunch every day. There is a word for secretaries that refuse to make the office coffee, it is “unemployed”.

Soooo. My wife never made my lunch. I’ve always had to do it. He should look at it this way, at least he can make sure he has what he wants.

I know plenty of men from that time period who would not have had a clue how to make their own lunch — some of my best friends’ hubbies (I was much more fortunate).

Obviously, John never knew how good he had it till he lost it. So far, it’s only ‘the lunch’ he lost. He’ll get more ‘brownie points’ if his vocabulary becomes filled with ’honey, would you like me to….???? I I suspect this situation is quite common in households in which the wife goes back to work.

Kudos to all those fellows who currently make their own work lunches in order to make life easier for their spouse! It’s really the little chores that make the difference as to how a woman feels when she gets home…..papers off the floor and kitchen counters cleaned off and garbage taken out. A spouse who can relax right after she gets home makes a happier wife and a happier husband, needless to say.

Wow really, making your own lunch is soo difficult?? Let me guess what he had…PB&J. I had a b/f who would come over to my house just so I could make him lunch, then he’d complain about it…
