Not long ago, I bought a set 16 of music CDs from my local library’s Friends Book Sale pile for one dollar. It was the Complete Ella Fitzgerald Song Books, and the current price for the set on Amazon ranges from $142.97 to $226.02. Now I check the pile every time I go.
Today’s Frog Applause quoted for sad truth. I wish I had known this when my father passed away – I gave most of his considerable art library to the Provo City Library in 1989, thinking they would value his books. They may have kept a few, and I know that whatever they acquired from selling the rest went towards the support of the library in the end, but I would have rather found homes for the volumes myself had I known that they would be offloaded.
I had less problems and less regrets getting rid of my ex-wives than parting with my books. Every once in a while circumstances have forced me to downsize my library and it’s like losing my children. One of the things I have done, especially with paperbacks, is to donate them to my local VA hospital. They are much appreciated, and much needed there.
I’m back from my colonoscopy. While, as promised, I’m not full of that sh_ stuff, I’m finding comments diffficult to make now. Connection? At least the procedure nurse thought my heart had great sine waves.
Re: Horse on the blog. These are the men of Auxiliary Remount Depot #326 at Camp Cody, outside Deming, New Mexico. About 40,000 men were stationed there and they were obviously bored stiff. The camp was the home of the 34th Infantry Division, and had several names before it was renamed for William “Buffalo Bill” Cody. Details are here:

I think I’ll have bacon and eggs for breakfast, Teresa. And lots of bargain books!(What? That’s not a black-and-white rendering of bacon and eggs?!)

Awww … a beautiful bouncing baby spork. This must have been after the spoon came back from her ill-considered dalliance with the dish.

Every time I look at today’s Frog Applause I see John Lennon’s head on the woman’s body.

I like being present when women donate their clothes right off their back.

The background is derivative of pays homage to a mentally ill Dutch artist.
The eyes are derivative of pay homage to Pab Sungenis.
The strategically placed “squiggly” is derivative of pays homage to Wal~Mart.
The text is derivative of pays homage to Awful Library Books.
P.S. I like it.
