FRAZZ BY JEF MALLETT Caulfield: But you get up early to swim. Frazz: Precisely because I am NOT a morning person. Caulfield: Oh, do explain. Frazz: I'd rather not. It makes me sound preachy. Caulfield: Come on. We're friends here. Frazz: All right. It's a momentum vs. inertia thing. The way you begin your morning sets the tone for your entire day. Caulfield: That doesn't sound preachy. It makes perfect sense. Frazz: Oh. Cool. Mr. Burke: You found out why Frazz has the sniffles the entire day? Caulfield: Yeah. Water up his nose at 5 A.M.

what happens if something happens that disrupts your initial tone, it could be a positive or negative.

People who don’t sleep in when they can are so strange….

Too many employees would end up taking advantage of that “enlightened” employer. A truly enlightened employer would recognize those with a good work ethic (apparently like yourself) and arrange the hours to facilitate their efforts.

Love it. Unintended consequences. Worth it for him, though.

Like Frazz, I’m at the pool at 0500, except on mornings when I ride my bike to work. On those mornings, I leave my house at 0430. If I run in the morning, I usually start my run at 0515 – after driving to work and running from the gym there. On the rare morning that I don’t swim, bike, or run, I sleep in until 0445 and I’m at work at 0530.

I am so much not a morning person. I’m glad that the way my morning starts (grumpy, tired, wanting to stay in bed) doesn’t indicate the rest of how my day will go.

I never get up until I wake up. It works out pretty well.Frazz looks a bit like a grown-up of Calvin, except cuter.

The middle school where I taught started at 7:20 am. We had kids outside the building at 6:45 because their parents went to work early. The parents didn’t stay up late, so the kids didn’t either. The most productive classes were in the morning. The students were hopeless by early afternoon. So was I – the door monitor at 6:45. No guards, no metal detector, just teachers. And this was South Central Los Angeles – not so long ago.

I am NOT a morning person (my best sleep is the hours around 7 and 8 am), but my husband droops by 9pm and is nodding by 10pm. So even before we had our kids we knew I’d stay up with the babies till the wee hours and then he’d get them and take care of them in the early morning. So now that they’re (mostly) out of that he gets them breakfast, I get the nightmares!

Frazz may swim in the morning, but his nose runs all day. It’s got a phenomenal work ethic.

What if biological clocks don’t work that way for learning? Apparently there’s studies showing that learning is stunted at the early hours.
