Hey, it strengthens her immune system. We used to say that a kid has to eat a pound of dirt by the time he grows up.

all those neat freaks must love this one. great way to acquire an immune system. unlike the American Indians who died from the lack of immunity to European diseases.

@Beleck3: Right, they died because they didn’t eat enough dirt… (shaking my head) Didn’t they teach you anything in History or Biology?

@luckylouie: Right on! And nowadays they wonder where all the allergies come from, with all those “antibacterial” cleaning chemicals they’re using.

Eating dirt is also a way for tapeworms to get into your body. Wierd little things like in dirt. On that note, I guarantee if you ever take a course in parasitology you will never again eat a piece of rare meat!

First fallen snow and rain can be contaminated. I remember when cisterns were filled from roof run-off. The pipe to the cistern had a two-way valve, ie the first part of the rain was sent to run-off, then after the dirt had washed out of the air and off the roof, then the rain valved to the cistern. The good old days.

Snain is a mixture of snow and rain. One year, we had snirt. It was about -10, wind blowing, and the snow had streaks of dirt in it. The two were mixed but not combined.

And here we are talking about strengthening our immune systems and trying to avoid salmonella. Upset tummies — get ’em early and get ’em often!

Our snow icecream did not use eggs, but the recipefor homemade ice cream did. But then we had our own chickens and milk cows. By the way, there is now evidence that some parasites may help protect us from auto immune diseases.

It’s amazing that the species has managed to survive for thousands of generations without Lysol, and now we’re all gonna die if we don’t bathe in it,
