Has anybody ever come up with a definitive study as two how long a severed head retains consciousness after separation? I’ve tried to look it up a few times but the information is confusing.
It took me two days to realize that she’s in the back seat of a car, and I’m a very smart fellow.
Question of protocol: Isn’t the appropriate form of queenly address “Ma’am”?
Not that I really care, since if I had been born Brit I’d be agitating for the abolition of the monarchy. True, there’s little chance of that ever happening, but then, who would have guessed the Soviet Union would collapse?
It’s said that Anne Boleyn’s lips and eyes continued to move after she was beheaded. Of course regular NAQV readers won’t be surprised by this - we’ve seen her do more than that!
stpatme - if the victim doesn’t faint, the human head can continue to live for between 20 and 40 seconds after being detached from the body, including all senses but, of course, no voice. I think the French figured this out while they were using the guillotine. It might be one of the reasons they quit using it. Sorry, I can’t provide a citation.
Saw a special on PBS about Windsor Castle. The current protocol for addressing the Queen is ‘Your Majesty’ the first time you greet her on any day and then Ma’am after that.
Alas, how the mighty have fallen. A reigning monarch should not have to pretend to be democratic. Everything started to go downhill with that darned old Magna Carta.
BlueRaven - I believe it’s “Majesty” for a king or queen and “Highness” for a prince or princess and certain other members of the royal house. Somewhere on line there has to be a list, but I’m too busy catching up on comics to look for it now.

I recently discovered this comic. It’s quickly become one of my favorites. It’s so totally random!

Technically, pshearer, it’s “Your Highness” or “Your Majesty,” but “milady” makes sense in a pinch when you’re going for the informal.
